VACANCIES IN GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENTS

Mr Lee Choon Eng asked the Chief Secretary to state the number of vacancies in all Government Departments as at 30th June, 1958, giving the number of vacant posts in each Department which are to be filled immediately due to the exigencies of the service, those which are not likely to be filled, and the amount of money the Government will save this year as a result of the non-filling of such vacancies.

Mr E. B. David: An examination is currently taking place of the staffing position in all Departments with a view to effecting economies. This examination is not yet complete and it is therefore not yet possible to supply the in formation required. When the information is available I will circulate it in the Official Report.
