Mr Lim Cher Kheng asked the Chief Secretary whether he will make a statement to clarify the stand of the Government with regard to the recent statement by the Consul-General of Indonesia that Indonesia intended to change its basic policy towards Singapore.
Mr E. B. David: Sir, I am not aware of nor have I received official information of any such change of basic policy. The Singapore Government now, as always, desires to maintain friendly relations with the Republic of Indonesia, to promote trade with that country and to refrain from any interference in her internal affairs.
Mr Lim Cher Kheng (Changi): It seems that the Chief Secretary does not have any official information regarding the statement made by the Consul-General of Indonesia. Will the Chief Secretary enlighten us on whether the activities carried out by Indonesian rebels in the Colony could have contributed to the Indonesian Government thinking that it was time for them to change its basic policy?
Mr Speaker: That is a different question.
