The Deputy Prime Minister (Dr Toh Chin Chye): Mr Speaker, I propose that Mr John Mammen be elected as Deputy Speaker of this Assembly.

Mr Speaker: There being only one proposal, I declare Mr John Mammen to have been elected as Deputy Speaker of this Assembly, and I invite the Deputy Speaker to take the chair allocated to him on the Front Bench.

(The Deputy Speaker accordingly took the chair allocated to him).
