Mrs Seow Peck Leng asked the Minister for Health and Law why the United Nations Seminar on the Status of Women in Family Law, which was scheduled to be held in Singapore at the end of this month, was cancelled.
Mr K. M. Byrne: Mr Speaker, Sir, the Seminar has not been cancelled but will be held in Tokyo in May. The venue of the Seminar was changed by the United Nations.
Mrs Seow Peck Leng: Mr Speaker, Sir, I do not know whether the Minister is prepared to tell us - we would be obliged if he would - why the United Nations changed the venue when it is almost time to hold it. Time was short; they gave such short notice of a change of venue.
Mr Byrne: Sir, the United Nations Secretariat was informed that the Singapore Government would not be able to issue entry permits to the delegates from Formosa. Then they decided to change the venue.
