Mr Tee Kim Leng asked the Minister for Education (i) how many Chinese Middle School graduates were employed by the Government in 1962 to teach in both Government and Government-aided schools; (ii) how many of these newly-employed teachers hold the Senior Middle III certificate and how many the Junior Middle IV certificate.

Mr Lee Khoon Choy (for the Minister for Education): Mr Speaker, Sir, 143 Chinese Middle School graduates were employed to teach in Government schools and 144 in Government-aided schools this year. 114 of those in Government schools and 141 of those in aided schools hold the Senior Middle III certificate. As far as I know, there is no such thing as Junior Middle IV qualification.
