Mr R. A. Gonzales asked the Minister for Law and National Development what steps are being taken to ease the traffic congestion at the two pedestrian crossings near the Tampines Circus and whether any steps are being taken to construct an overhead bridge for pedestrians at this locality.
Mr Ho Cheng Choon (for the Minister for Law and National Development): Mr Speaker, Sir, the Public Works Department is in the process of widening Upper Serangoon Road, from Woodsville junction to Ponggol Road. The work now being carried out will eventually improve traffic conditions near and around Tampines Circus.
At present, no steps are being taken to construct a pedestrian overhead bridge near Tampines Circus. Consideration, however, will be given to building such a bridge if, after Upper Serangoon Road has been widened, traffic congestion still exists.
