Mr R. A. Gonzales asked the Minister for Law and National Development whether the road-widening scheme now in progress along Upper Serangoon Road includes the demolition of the row of shop-houses facing Yio Chu Kang Road, and when will those houses be demolished.
Mr Ho Cheng Choon (for the Minister for Law and National Development): Mr Speaker, Sir, the answer to the question is yes. The demolition of the obstructing row of shop-houses is necessary for the widening of Upper Serangoon Road now in progress. The Commissioner of Lands is taking steps to acquire the land, and as soon as this action is completed, demolition of the shop-houses will proceed.
