Mr Teong Eng Siong asked the Minister for Education whether the Government has any plans to set up an Integrated School in the Sembawang Constituency for the enrolment of students in the English, Chinese, Malay and Tamil streams.
Mr Ong Pang Boon: Mr Speaker, Sir, there are no plans for the building of primary schools in the Sembawang constituency under the Second Plan.
An extension of 16 classrooms has been approved under the 1966 programme for the Canberra School. This extension will be used to take over the primary classes in the Naval Base Full School and to absorb the increase in the intake of primary school students in the area. It will then be possible to admit children in the Malay, Chinese and Tamil language streams in the Government English schools in this area and to convert them into integrated schools.
The Sembawang Malay School has 27 Malay and 14 English classes and is already an integrated school.
