KHEK CEMETERY IN NORTH BUONA VISTA ROAD (Development as Housing Estate)

Mr Chow Chiok Hock asked the Minister for Law and National Development whether the Khek Cemetery in North Buona Vista Road is to be developed as a Housing Estate by the Housing and Development Board; when will this project start, and when will it be completed.

Mr Ho Cheng Choon (for the Minister for Law and National Development): Mr Speaker, Sir, this cemetery is at present under acquisition and plans for its redevelopment are being considered by the Housing and Development Board. The earthwork is expected to commence in late 1967 and buildings are expected to be constructed during 1968 or 1969. If all goes well, the development may be completed by 1971.
