The Minister of State for the Prime Minister's Department (Tuan Haji Yaacob Bin Mohamed): (In Malay): Mr Speaker, Sir, I beg to move, "That the Bill be now read a Second time."

The purpose of this Bill is to amend the Road Traffic Ordinance, 1961, so as to enable certain private vehicles to be licensed to carry school children to and from schools for hire or reward. Under this Bill, the 'school taxis' will be classified as a new category of public service vehicles.

Members will recollect that I had given details about this `school taxis' scheme when moving the Road Traffic (Amendment) Bill during a previous sitting of Parliament in June 1966. The date when applications will be invited will be announced soon.

Sir, I beg to move.

Question put, and agreed to.

Bill accordingly read a Second time and committed to a Committee of the whole House.

The House immediately resolved itself into a Committee on the Bill. - [Tuan Haji Yaacob Bin Mohamed]

Bill considered in Committee; reported without amendment; read a Third time and passed.
