Mr P. Govindaswamy asked the Minister of Defence, in the demonstration by Ngee Ann College students in front of the City Hall on 4th November, 1966, how many Police officers and how many students were injured, and how many students were treated for their injuries at the General Hospital.
The Minister of State of Defence (Mr Wee Toon Boon) (for the Minister of Defence): Mr Speaker, in all, 13 Police officers were injured. One of these, a police constable, was warded at the General Hospital for four days with a 2-inch laceration on his right forehead. Subsequently, 12 days' medical leave were prescribed for him.
Six students were injured and were treated as outpatients at the General Hospital. The most serious injury among them appeared to be a fractured heel bone and this, on the admission of the student himself, was caused when he jumped from the City Hall steps to the ground in order to avoid the Police.
