Mr P. Selvadurai asked the Minister for Communications when the Government will build a post office at Woodlands to serve the large number of residents in the area.
Mr Yong Nyuk Lin: The Postal Services Department has plans to build a post office at Woodlands in conjunction with the development of the proposed Woodlands New Town Scheme, which is understood to be still in the planning stage.
At present, however, postal facilities in the Woodlands area are being provided by, firstly, a postal agency and, secondly, a mobile post office.
The postal agent, Mr Lim Soon Teng of 1408 Woodlands Road, Singapore, 25, who terminated his services on 23rd September this year, has since agreed to resume operation of the postal agency with effect from the 2nd of this month.
As a service improvement, arrangements were made from 28th October this year for the mobile post office to increase the frequency of calls from once a week on Wednesdays, to thrice a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.
