Mr Rohan bin Kamis asked the Minister for Communications and Acting Minister for Culture what are the plans to improve the bus services in Telok Blangah Constituency and when these plans will be operational.

Mr Ong Teng Cheong: Mr Speaker, Sir, there are four neighbourhoods in Telok Blangah Town. Apart from services plying along trunk roads bounding the town, there are only five services plying within the town. Of the four neighbourhoods, three are served by only one service each.

SBS plans to improve the bus services in this area by bringing all services to a central terminal, which is located in the Town Centre near the junction of Jalan Bukit Merah and Henderson Road. There will be nine services radiating from the central terminal. This gives wider coverage and commuters will have better choice. Feeder services will be introduced to link all the neighbourhoods to the central terminal.

The proposed plan is likely to be implemented towards the end of the year.
