Encik Mansor Haji Sukaimi asked the Minister for National Development whether the inquiry into the collapse of the flyover at Jalan Eunos has been completed; and if he will give the reasons for the collapse and state what steps will be taken to ensure that there will be no further collapse of that flyover and other flyovers.

Mr Teh Cheang Wan: Mr Speaker, Sir, the Departmental Committee of Inquiry has completed its report. The report which contains a preliminary assessment of the matter has been submitted to the Attorney-General. I am advised that because of the preliminary nature of the report and legal implications, it would not be desirable to release the reasons for the collapse at this stage. Nevertheless, as a precautionary measure, the Public Works Department has intensified the checking procedures for the design and construction of all flyovers in Singapore.
