Mr Lim Boon Heng asked the Minister for National Development whether there are any plans to construct multi-storey car parks in Ang Mo Kio New Town to alleviate the current inadequacy of parking lots.

Mr Lee Yock Suan (for the Minister for National Development): Mr Deputy Speaker, Sir, there are 55 car parks providing 13,625 parking lots in Ang Mo Kio New Town. From sales of season parking tickets, the Housing and Development Board estimates that there is an overall surplus of 8% in parking lots provided. While certain neighbourhoods may experience some deficiency, car parking provision in the New Town as a whole is adequate.

The HDB will conduct a survey to gauge the situation and, if necessary, the HDB will expand existing surface car parks. There is no necessity to build multi-storey car parks which are much more costly.
