Mr M.K.A. Jabbar asked the Minister for National Development why the bus stop in Telok Blangah Road, near the mosque opposite the World Trade Centre, was removed.

Mr Lee Yock Suan (for the Minister for National Development): Mr Deputy Speaker, Sir, the bus stop along Telok Blangah Road near the mosque opposite the World Trade Centre was recently removed to improve traffic flow. Before its removal, buses stopping there held up city-bound traffic because there was no room for a bus bay. This caused frequent congestion along this stretch of Telok Blangah Rood. With its removal, traffic flow has improved considerably.

Consideration was given to replacing the bus stop somewhere between the mosque and the Bata factory. This was not possible as there was no room for a bus bay along this stretch. Any bus stop without a proper bus bay would obstruct traffic flow.

The PWD plans to widen Telok Blangah Road in 1982-83. A bus stop with a proper bus bay will be constructed near the one removed. Meanwhile, bus commuters can use either the bus stop located directly opposite the World Trade Centre about 330 metres away or the other bus stop near Kampong Bahru Road about 470 metres away.
