Mr Yeo Toon Chia asked the the present shortage of parking lots in most of the public housing estates, whether it will be feasible to mark out parking lots along the roadside of minor roads in public housing estates to allow overnight parking to alleviate the problem of indiscriminate overnight parking along the roads; and, if not, what are the plans to ease the increasing parking problem in most Housing and Development Board estates.

Mr Lee Yock Suan (for the Minister for National Development): Sir. provision of car parking facilities in the new HDB estates is generally adequate, although it may be insufficient in certain neighbourhoods because of uneven distribution of vehicle ownership relative to parking lots. In some of the older estates, there may be slight shortages of parking lots. The HDB will review the requirement of parking facilities in various estates and build additional car parks if necessary. The HDB will also study the feasibility of allowing kerbside parking along the minor roads of housing estates, particularly in areas where there are shortages of overnight parking facilities.
