Dr Toh Chin Chye asked the Minister or National Development what was the number of companies owing rents to the Housing and Development Board (i) for three to six months and (ii) for more than six months, for the year 1984 and for the period January-July 1985.

Mr Teh Cheang Wan: In 1984, a monthly average of 366 tenants of HDB's industrial and commercial premises owed rents for three-six months. A further 164 tenants owed rents for more than six months. These figures represent 2.06% and 0.92% of the industrial and commercial tenancies under HDB's management.

For the period January to July 1985, the numbers of tenants owing rent every month for three-six months and for more than six months were 687 and 321 respectively, or 3.55% and 1.66% of the industrial and commercial premises under management.
