Encik Zulkifli bin Mohammed asked the Minister for National Development (a) what were the reasons for the delay by the Public Works Department in erecting pedestrian crossings and other road safety features along Bedok Reservoir Road although requests for them had been made by residents as early as November 1984 and the PWD knew well in advance the planned development for this neighbourhood; and (b) what and when additional measures will be taken by the PWD to avoid a recurrence of the recent tragic accident which resulted in the death of a 10-year-old schoolgirl whilst crossing this road.

Mr Teh Cheang Wan: There is no delay in the erection of pedestrian crossings and other road safety features. Along Bedok Reservoir Road, there will be a total of 9 pedestrian crossings. 5 of these crossings have already been built and 4 more will be installed by the end of this financial year. It was unfortunate that the fatal accident should have happened while the crossings were progressively being built along Bedok Reservoir Road.
