[Mr Speaker in the Chair]
The following question stood in the name of Mr Loh Meng See -
Mr Loh Meng See: To ask the Minister for Home Affairs (a) when will a neighbourhood police post be set up in Kampong Glam Constituency; and (b) in view of the geographical structure of the Kampong Glam Constituency, whether the Constituency can have two neighbourhood police posts, one covering the Crawford/Beach Road area and the other the Waterloo Street/Queen Street area.
Mr S. Chandra Das (Cheng San GRC): Question No. 1, Sir.
The Minister for Home Affairs (Prof. S. Jayakumar): Mr Speaker, Sir, Kampong Glam Constituency is scheduled to have a Neighbourhood Police Post (NPP) in 1989. However, there is a problem in finding a permanent site because of the built-up nature of the area and the non-availability of HDB ground floor void decks.
Until a permanent site is found, a temporary NPP will be set up at the vacant land next to Block 17, Beach Road, during the course of this year.
As for the second part of the question, the Police have studied whether the Constituency requires more than one NPP and they have assessed that the area can be covered by one NPP.
