Dr Kanwaljit Soin asked the Minister for Health whether there are regulations on the use of invasive procedures, such as tattooing and injection of foreign materials, in beauty salons.
Mr Yeo Cheow Tong: Beauty salons are not under the purview of the Ministry of Health as they do not provide medical services. There are no regulations under the purview of my Ministry controlling tattooing or the injection of foreign materials that are not controlled drugs in beauty salons. However, my Ministry will take action if invasive procedures for plastic surgery are performed either by unqualified persons or in premises which are not licensed as medical clinics, thereby contravening the Medical Registration Act or the Private Hospitals and Medical Clinics Act.
