Dr Kanwaljit Soin asked the Minister for Health what is the rationale for carrying out AIDS screening on work permit holders only and not on employment pass holders.
Mr Yeo Cheow Tong: The Ministry of Health has been monitoring the trend of AIDS in Singapore closely. It has decided to carry out AIDS screening on work permit holders and applicants early this year because of the increasing number of work permit holders found to be HIV positive. On the other hand, the number of infected employment pass holders has remained negligible. While there is no need to extend AIDS screening to employment pass holders, the Ministry will continue to monitor the situation closely.
