Dr Kanwaljit Soin asked the Minister for Education what percentage of schools have pastoral care services and whether his Ministry will consider extending this care service to all schools.

Mr Lee Yock Suan: The Pastoral Care project, first implemented in 17 secondary schools in 1988, has been extended to all secondary schools by 1994.

This year 30 primary schools are in the Pastoral Care project which will be extended to all primary schools within the next four years.

Schools not yet officially in the project generally mount their own pastoral care programme to cater to the overall development of their pupils.
