Mr S. Chandra Das asked the Minister for National Development whether there are any plans to upgrade the bus shelters in areas where new linkways have been built.

Mr Lim Hng Kiang: Mr Speaker, Sir, the Public Works Department (PWD) has no plans to upgrade the bus shelters in areas where new linkways have been built by the Citizens' Consultative Committees (CCCs) or Town Councils using Community Improvement Projects Committee (CIPC) funds.

The CCCs can apply for CIPC funding for the upgrading of such bus shelters if they meet three conditions:

(1) the bus shelters must be older than 10 years. This is to ensure that public funds are not wasted through the replacement of existing shelters which are still in good condition;

(2) the existing bus shelter does not blend well with the covered linkway; and

(3) they have obtained approval from the PWD and other technical departments for the design of the shelters.
