The Minister of State for Law (Assoc. Prof. Ho Peng Kee): Mr Speaker, Sir, I beg to move,

That this Parliament, in accordance with Section 4 of the Foreshores Act (Cap 113) approves the proposed additional reclamation by the Government of the foreshore and seabed at Sentosa Cove containing an area of about 9.7 ha as shown coloured pink on the plan marked 'LAND OFFICE RECLAMATION PLAN NO 3/99', which is deposited in the Land Office, Singapore.

Sir, Parliament at its sitting on 9th November 1990 approved the reclamation of about 69 hectares of foreshore and seabed between Sentosa and Buran Darat (now known as Sentosa Cove). This reclamation has been completed. The Ministry of Trade and Industry proposes to reclaim an additional 9.7 ha of foreshore and seabed. This is shown coloured pink on the plan marked as "Land Office Reclamation Plan No 3/1999". A copy of this plan is displayed in the Library of this House for the reference of hon. Members.

The proposed reclamation will bring the total development area for Sentosa Cove to 116.5 ha. Upon completion of the reclamation, the land will be used for recreational and residential development. The additional area to be reclaimed allows for optimisation of the development mix and will yield an additional 150 housing units. The overall profitability of the project will be improved with the provision of high-value housing units fronting the sea.

It will take 27 months from the date of approval to complete the project. The Sentosa Development Corporation, as agent of the Government, will undertake the reclamation.

Sir, I beg to move.

Question put, and agreed to.
