The Chief Minister: Mr Speaker, Sir, it is my privilege today to move the motion which stands in my name,

That this House conveys its humble duty and thanks to Her Majesty the Queen for Her Majesty's gracious message.

It is with pleasure, I am sure, that hon. Members of this House noted the message and its terms, particularly that part especially, Sir, which stated, "I look forward with every confidence to the faithful discharge of this trust for I am sure that those on whom this responsibility falls will carry it out with foresight, courage and honesty of purpose." Sir, it is reasonable to hope that as this confidence is proved to have been well placed in the months ahead, it will be but a prelude to far greater things. I beg to move, Sir.

Mr Lim Choon Mong: Mr Speaker, I rise to second the motion. I believe that Her Gracious Majesty has indeed done Singapore an honour to give us such an encouraging message.

Question put, and agreed to.

Resolved,

That this House conveys its humble duty and thanks to Her Majesty the Queen for Her Majesty's gracious message.
