Mr D. S. Marshall asked the Chief Secretary whether in the light of experience gained by the repeated delays in the election for the City Council, he would consider establishing as of now, the machinery to prepare for General Elections for the Assembly next August, and whether he will give an assurance that adequate steps are being taken to make certain that there will be no question of postponement of such elections for reasons of lack of organisation.

Mr W. A. C. Goode: Sir, steps are now being taken to divide Singapore into 50 electoral divisions with one further division for the islands, and to prepare the electoral rolls to be ready for the Legislative Assembly elections next August.

Mr Marshall: Thank you.
