Mr Lee Choon Eng asked the Attorney-General, with reference to his showing cause in Divorce Suit No. 32 of 1957, why the decree nisi pronounced by the Honourable Mr Justice Tan Ah Tah on the 22nd July, 1957, should not be made absolute, to state the grounds upon which he acted; and whether full and proper investigations were duly conducted in Singapore, Port Dickson and Kuala Lumpur with the assistance of experienced officers of the Police Force prior to and after showing cause.
Mr E. P. Shanks: I intervened in this Divorce Suit, Sir, because, as a result of information I had received and enquiries I made, I believed the decree nisi for dissolution of the marriage had been obtained by reason of material facts not being brought before the Court. Both before and after I intervened, investigations were made in Singapore, Port Dickson and Kuala Lumpur with the assistance of the Police Force and I have no reason to suppose that those enquiries were not both full and proper. Since the decree was made absolute, that is since the adjudication on my intervention, I have made no further investigation into the matter.
Mr Lee Choon Eng: Mr Speaker, Sir, is the Attorney-General aware that by his intervention in this Suit, he has caused damage to the reputation of the petitioner?
Mr Speaker: It is a matter of opinion.
