The Minister for Commerce and Industry (Mr J. M. Jumabhoy): Mr Speaker, Sir, I rise to move,
That this Assembly, pursuant to subsection (2) of section 490 of the Merchant Shipping Ordinance (Chapter 207), resolves that the Singapore Port (Amendment) Rules, 1958, published as Notification No. S 168 in the Gazette Supplement No. 49 dated 25th July, 1958, as contained in Sessional Paper No. S.L. 33 of 1958, be approved.
Sir, these Rules amend Schedules 1 and 2 of the principal Rules which relate to anchorages.
Parts of the Eastern Principal Quarantine and Immigration Anchorage have been found to be too deep for vessels to anchor; other parts are too shallow and dangerous reefs obtrude into them. The useable space of the existing anchorage is inadequate; hence a new area is being defined for this anchorage, the whole of which will be useful to shipping.
As the Eastern Explosives Dangerous Goods and Petroleum Anchorage has been found to be too exposed and not used by ships, the definition of its area as an anchorage is being deleted from the Rules.
The Eastern Prohibited Anchorage is to be enlarged to protect underwater cables within the new prohibited area.
Sir, I beg to move.
Inche Mohamed Sidik: I second it.
Question put, and agreed to.
Resolved,
That this Assembly, pursuant to subsection (2) of section 490 of the Merchant Shipping Ordinance (Chapter 207), resolves that the Singapore Port (Amendment) Rules, 1958, published as Notification No. S 168 in the Gazette Supplement No. 49 dated 25th July, 1958, as contained in Sessional Paper No. S.L. 33 of 1958, be approved.
