Mr John Ede asked the Minister for Communications and Works whether, and when, it is proposed to introduce a one-way system of traffic along Bukit Timah and Dunearn Roads.

Mr Francis Thomas: Sir, it is planned that a one-way system for traffic should be introduced along Dunearn and Bukit Timah Roads. This cannot, however, be done until adequate bridges are built across the Bukit Timah Canal. The planning and construction of these bridges is intimately related to a drainage scheme for the whole area. The execution of the drainage scheme depends on the availability of very considerable funds and I am afraid that there is little likelihood that the drainage scheme will go forward in the near future.
