Mr Teo Chong Tee asked the Minister for National Development and Communications (a) how many granite quarries are owned by the Housing and Development Board and how many are owned by private companies; and (b) what is the percentage allowed to the private companies to supply granite to contractors for HDB projects.

Dr Tan Eng Liang (for the Minister for National Development and Communications): Mr Speaker, Sir, the Housing and Development Board operates two granite quarries at Pulau Ubin and Mandai. There are another 23 licensed granite quarries owned by private companies.

HDB's building contractors can obtain up to 25% of their aggregate supplies from the private quarries.
