TIONG BAHRU PRE-WAR FLATS (Leaking roofs)

Mr Ch'ng Jit Koon asked the Minister for National Development and Communications whether he is aware that the roofs in the 20 blocks of flats in the Tiong Bahru Pre-War Estate are leaking very badly, and if he will ascertain from the Housing and Development Board whether there are plans to solve the problem of those leaking roofs permanently.

Dr Tan Eng Liang (for the Minister for National Development and Communications): Mr Speaker, Sir, the Housing and Development Board has, on several occasions, from time to time repaired leaking roofs of the 20 blocks of flats in the Tiong Bahru Pre-War Estate. The Board's officers are now studying plans for an economic and more permanent solution to the recurrent problem of leaks.
