Dr Ho Tat Kin asked the Minister for Communications and Information what measures are being taken to ensure that all planes, which overflew European airspace, will not, on landing in Singapore, bring in radioactive fallout from the Chernobyl accident.
Dr Yeo Ning Hong: Mr Speaker, Sir, in May, shortly after the Chernobyl accident, the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore, together with Singapore Airlines and the Radiation Protection Inspectorate of the Ministry of Health, carried out measurements for radioactivity on aircraft, overflying Europe, arriving in Singapore. There was no indication of radioactive emissions from these aircraft.
