Mrs Yu-Foo Yee Shoon asked the Minister for National Development when computerized traffic directional display boards will be installed.

Dr Lee Boon Yang (for the Minister for National Development): Mr Speaker, Sir, computerized traffic directional display boards are signboards mounted on the expressways. They display various messages to the drivers on traffic and weather conditions on the road. They are operated by a central computer.

The PWD has only invited tenders for consultancy on the installation of the system. If found feasible, tenders for the implementation of the system are expected to be called by the end of 1988 and the first signboards should be installed before the end of 1989.

Encik Wan Hussin bin Hj Zoohri (Kampong Ubi): Question 14, Sir. I wish to declare my interest that I am a teacher and the question is asked in the interest of the teaching profession.
