Mr Cheo Chai Chen asked the Prime Minister if he will consider reinstating the Rochore and Telok Ayer Constituencies in recognition of the tremendous contributions made by the former Members of Parliament for these constituencies, namely, Dr Toh Chin Chye and Mr Ong Pang Boon, during the struggle for nationhood and the early years of post-independence economic and social progress.

Mr Goh Chok Tong: The electoral boundaries of Rochore and Telok Ayer had to be changed in 1988 to reflect population shifts and the creation of Group Representation Constituencies.

Dr Toh Chin Chye and Mr Ong Pang Boon have made significant contributions to Singapore. But we need not recognise their contributions by reinstating the Rochore and Telok Ayer Constituencies. They can be remembered in other ways.
