Order for Second Reading read.
11.19 am.
The Attorney-General (Mr E. P. Shanks): Mr Speaker, Sir, I move, "That the Bill be now Second time."
At present, the corporate body of Tan Tock Seng's Hospital and the committee of management of the hospital include ex-officio the Deputy Chief Secretary and the Secretary for Chinese Affairs. The Deputy Chief Secretary is not directly concerned with hospitals and it is thought that it would be useful to replace him by the Assistant Director of Medical Services, Tuberculosis, who is of course intimately concerned with the administration of this particular hospital. The post of Secretary for Chinese Affairs will, it is expected, be abolished in the very near future and it is thought that that officer could most usefully be replaced by a representative of the Treasury. This Bill is designed to effect the changes I have referred to.
Sir, I beg to move.
Question put, and agreed to.
Bill accordingly read a Second time and committed to a Committee of the whole Assembly.
Assembly immediately resolved itself into a Committee on the Bill. [Mr Shanks].
Bill considered in Committee; reported without amendment; read the Third time and passed.
