Mr Lim Cher Kheng: Mr Speaker, Sir, the subject which I raise on the Motion for the Adjournment is the importance of unrestricted trade with China. Before I say anything, I wish to quote a few news cuttings to support my motion. First, a rubber market report from the Straits Times of Saturday, 29th November reads:

"The market felt a backwash resulting from the announcement that amendments were being made to the proposed banking legislation in the Federation which would have the effect of closing down the Bank of China branches in Kuala Lumpur and Penang."

Further down, it says:

"They feel uneasy about the rubber price, fearing that China will not buy more Malayan rubber with the consequent bearish effect on this market."
