POLICE (Assault on suspects)

Mr Seah Peng Chuan asked the Chief Secretary whether he is aware of allegations that suspects rounded up by the Police are assaulted inside police vehicles en route to police stations, and if he will cause an investigation to be made into the matter.

Mr E. B. David: I am aware of two such allegations, both of which have already been investigated. In the first case the investigation revealed that the complaint could not be substantiated. In the second case the allegation of assault was confirmed and appropriate disciplinary action has been taken against the two police constables concerned.
