Inche Ahmad Jabri Bin Mohammad Akib asked the Minister for Labour and Law to state the number of trade unions whose applications for registration are pending; for how long have they been pending; whether he is aware of any delay in their registration; and what are the reasons for such delay.
Mr Byrne: Mr Speaker, Sir, the applications for registration of only two trades unions are pending, One is an amalgamated union in the rattan industry. That application has been deferred because the union has failed to furnish the Registrar with a copy of its rules.
The other application is from a federation of trade unions which submitted its application as recently as 13th April, 1960. The rules of this federation are under consideration.
There has been no undue delay in dealing with the applications of these two unions.
