Order for Second and Third Readings.
3.03 p.m.
The Minister for Finance (Dr Goh Keng Swee): Mr Speaker, Sir, I have the Yang di-Pertuan Negara's recommendation that this Bill be proceeded with. I beg to move, "That the Bill be now read a Second time."
The provisions voted by the Assembly in 1958 in the 1958 Ordinary Estimates under the Appropriation Ordinance, 1957, were insufficient, and had to be augmented during the year by supple mentary estimates. The additional amounts under the various heads are shown in the First Schedule to the Bill. They total $18,555,163.78. In the case of the Development Estimates, the excess expenditure of $338,154.04 is shown by the amount and under the various heads in the Second Schedule to the Bill. These excesses have all been covered by supplementary votes approved by resolutions of the Legislative Assembly during 1958, except for certain payments under heads 22, 24, 46 and 47, which Members will remember approving in Cmd. (New Series) 28 of 1959 earlier this year. The Bill seeks to give legal sanction to these supplementary votes.
Sir, I beg to move.
Question put, and agreed to. Bill accordingly read a Second time.
Third Reading
Mr Speaker: Will the Minister proceed with the Third Reading?
Dr Goh Keng Swee: Mr Speaker, Sir, I beg to move, "That the Bill be now read the Third time."
Question put, and agreed to.
Bill accordingly read the Third time and passed.
