The Leader of the House (Mr E.W. Barker): Mr Deputy Speaker, Sir, may I seek your consent and the general assent of hon. Members present to move a Motion to exempt the proceedings on the matter to be raised on the Motion for the Adjournment today from the time limits laid down in Standing Order 1 (8) (b).
Sir, normally a debate on the Adjournment Motion lasts for half an hour, usually from 7.30 p.m. to 8.00 p.m. Since it is only 3.30 p.m. now, and I understand that many Backbenchers wish to speak on a matter which touches their hearts, I seek your consent, Sir, and the general assent of Members present to move the Motion.
Mr Deputy Speaker: I give my consent. Is it the pleasure of hon. Members that the motion be moved?
Hon. Members indicated assent
Question put, and agreed to.
Resolved,
"That the proceedings on the matter to be raised on the motion for the adjournment of Parliament this day be exempted from the time limits laid down in paragraph (8) (b) of Standing Order 1." - [Mr Barker].
