HALF-HOURLY PARKING COUPONS (For use outside Restricted Zone)

Dr Lau Teik Soon asked the Minister for National Development whether the Urban Redevelopment Authority will issue half-hourly parking coupons for use outside the Restricted Zone.

Mr Teh Cheang Wan: Mr Deputy Speaker, Sir, the Urban Redevelopment Authority has lifted totally the control of private car parking charges from 1st May 1985. Private car park operators are now able to set their rates in accordance with supply and demand for car parks. The URA will monitor the new rates that will emerge through the working of market forces and carry out a review in six months' time on the parking rates of URA and HDB car parks. The question of issuing half-hourly parking coupons for use outside the Restricted Zone will then be considered.
