Mr J.B. Jeyaretnam asked the Minister for National Development (a) in what circumstances was the site on which the Angullia Mosque stands sold to the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) by Majlis Ugama Islam Singapura (MUIS); (b) was the land sold directly from MUIS to the URA and, if so, at what price; (c) what was the compelling reason for the sale to URA.
Mr Teh Cheang Wan: The plot of land on which the Angullia Mosque stands was acquired by the Government from Majlis Ugama Islam Singapura (MUIS). A compensation of $616,512.00 was paid to MUIS. The land, together with other adjacent land, is required by the URA for the comprehensive redevelopment of the Orchard Road Area.
