Dr S. Vasoo asked the Minister for Trade and Industry whether cycling will be permitted along designated routes in catchment areas, especially MacRitchie Reservoir.
Mr Yeo Cheow Tong: Sir, the National Parks Board, in collaboration with the PUB, is developing a cycling trail in the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve (BTNR). The first section of the trail is scheduled for opening later this year traversing the eastern periphery of the BTNR.
The National Parks Board will later extend the trail into the western area of the BTNR.
It is also working with the PUB on developing cycling trails in the central catchment nature reserve which includes the MacRitchie Reservoir.
Dr Vasoo: Sir, will interim arrangements be made for people to cycle there?
Mr Yeo Cheow Tong: Sir, if the trails are not available, it will be very difficult for cyclists to enter those areas.
Dr Vasoo: There are trails in the area for cycling.
Mr Yeo Cheow Tong: Sir, it is better that the cyclists wait until the trails have been properly laid out.
