Official Report, 7 March 1956, Vol 1, Issue 27 · Open in the reader (summaries, search, filters)

Mr Lim Yew Hock: Mr Speaker, Sir, may I be permitted, with the assent of the House, to move without notice the necessary exemption, under Standing Order 7 (11), in order to enable the business set down for today to be carried on beyond the moment of interruption?

Mr Speaker: As hon. Members know, under Standing Order 7 (11), a motion of that nature can only be moved after notice; but under Standing Order 23:

"Notice shall not be dispensed with in the case of a motion or in respect of any other proceeding for which notice is required except with the consent of the Speaker and the general assent of Members present."

May I know whether there is the general assent of Members present?

Hon. Members: Aye.

Mr Speaker: The motion therefore cannot be moved.
