Order for Second Reading read.

Mr Butterfield: Mr Speaker, Sir, I have to move, "That the Bill be now read a Second time."

Sir, at the present time the laws of the Colony are, for the most part, contained in the 1936 Revised Edition of the Laws and in the Annual Supplements to that Edition-Annual Supplements of both Ordinances and subsidiary legislation which have been published since 1936.

Sir, I think hon. Members are aware - indeed I think a question was put down on the subject a few months ago - that the printing of a new 1955 Revised Edition of the Laws is now nearing completion and there is good reason now to hope that the 1936 Edition wil1 be replaced by the 1955 Edition in the very near future. The present position therefore is that the preparation of further Annual Supplements to the 1936 Edition has become unnecessary and the purpose of this Bill is, therefore, first of all, to repeal the legislation under which I am required to prepare those Supplements - the Supplements to the 1936 Edition - and, secondly, to make legislative provision for the preparation and publication of Annual Supplements to the 1955 Edition. Briefly, therefore, Sir, this Bill anticipates the replacement of the 1936 Edition of the Laws by the 1955 Edition and will enable Annual Supplements to that Edition - the 1955 Edition of both Ordinances and subsidiary legislation - to be prepared. I beg to move.

Question put, and agreed to.

Bill accordingly read a Second time.
