Order for Second Reading read.
Inche Abdul Hamid Bin Haji Jumat: Mr Speaker, Sir, I beg to move, "That the Bill be now read a Second time."
Subsection (2) of Section 5 of the Nature Reserves Ordinance, 1951, provides that two members of the Board of Management shall be appointed by the Legislature. It is now considered more appropriate for the Governor in Council to take over the power of appointment to statutory bodies from the Legislature.
The purpose of this Bill is, therefore, to provide for the Governor in Council to replace the Legislature as the appointing authority for two nominated Trustees on the Nature Reserves Board.
The opportunity has also been taken to make specific provision for the resignation and reappointment of Trustees and to fix a quorum for the proceedings of the Board. Sir, I beg to move.
Question put, and agreed to.
Bill accordingly read a Second time.
