Mr Lin You Eng asked the Minister for Culture whether "TV and Broadcasting", a periodical printed in Chinese, is a Government publication; whether Radio Singapore charges advertising fees for announcing its publication and inviting the insertion of advertisements in it; and whether the Chief Editor is a member of the staff of the Ministry of Culture and is paid any extra remuneration.
Mr Rajaratnam: Sir, the "TV and Broadcasting" is a Government publication.
Mr Speaker: Question 17 raises several points. I do not know whether the Minister would like to answer them.
Mr Rajaratnam: Yes. It is a Government publication, and therefore the question of whether Radio Singapore charges advertising fees is quite obvious. Being a Government publication, we do not charge ourselves advertising fees. The Chief Editor, being a member of the staff of the Ministry of Culture engaged in Police and Government publications, therefore receives no extra remuneration.
Mr Tee Kim Leng (Pasir Panjang): (In Mandarin): What is the cost of each issue?
Mr Speaker: Has the Minister got the information?
Mr Rajaratnam: We do not know the cost. But as far as we could gather, it is worked in such a way that it costs the Government next to nothing.
