Tun Lim Yew Hock asked the Minister for Labour what is the reason for the delay in reaching a decision on the application for registration of the Singapore Industrial & Commercial Employees Union submitted to the Registrar of Trade Unions on 18th October, 1962.

Mr Wee Toon Boon (for the Minister for Labour): Mr Speaker, Sir, the registration of the proposed Singapore Industrial and Commercial Employees Union was refused by the Registrar of Trade Unions on the 25th of March, 1963. The application was not disposed of earlier because the Registrar had to seek legal advice on certain points of law.

Tun Lim Yew Hock: What are the grounds for refusal?

Mr Wee Toon Boon: Mr Speaker, Sir, probably the Member for Cairnhill did not check up the letter with the applicant. It is stated in the reply to the applicant under section 14 (e) that the application was refused.

Tun Lim Yew Hock: Was it necessary for the Registrar to refer to his legal adviser just to refuse an application under section 14 (e)?

Mr Speaker: That is another question. Dr Thio.
