Inche Ahmad Jabri Bin Mohammad Akib asked the Minister for Education when will a Malay School at Pulau Blakang Mati be built.

Mr Lee Khoon Choy (for the Minister for Education): Mr Speaker, Sir, tenders have already been called for the building of a 7-classroom primary school at Pulau Blakang Mati. It is expected that the school will be completed before the end of this year for 1964 admissions, and will be able to accommodate more than 600 pupils in two sessions. The language medium of the school has not been decided yet, as it will depend upon the registrations and demand for places by parents in respect of their children.

Inche Ahmad Jabri: (In Malay): Mr Speaker, Sir, can the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Education inform the Assembly as to what are the reasons the school in Pulau Blakang Mati could not be erected in 1961, even though the Minister for Education himself had stated in this Assembly that the school will be built in 1961?

Mr Lee Khoon Choy: Mr Speaker, Sir, further notice is required to answer that question.
